Case Study: D2X Transformation at VIIZR

As a startup ISV focused on serving the skilled trades, VIIZR was facing a big challenge: how could they build a Salesforce product that is affordable to implement and feasible to deliver to thousands of non-technical small business owners?

VIIZR’s product delivery challenges were remarkably similar to the challenges we helped solve in our time at Salesforce, where we built new processes and tools to scale Nonprofit Cloud to tens of thousands of small, mostly non-technical organizations. VIIZR was the perfect client for MuseLab, where we help ISVs deliver products with greater efficiency, scale, and confidence.

Through our six-month D2X Transformation service, we helped VIIZR align around the Product Delivery Model and define their product as an automated delivery recipe that’s built in version control to deliver a complete product experience rather than “just” a package version.

We guided VIIZR’s product team through implementing CumulusCI, the open-source product we built at Salesforce to make the Product Delivery Model possible. We call this combination of the Product Delivery Model and the tools to implement it the Development to Delivery Experience (D2X). We’re excited to have worked with VIIZR to help them become our first D2X trailblazer success story.

By partnering with MuseLab, VIIZR is delivering product faster and more reliably while saving costs and ensuring developers are spending their time innovating, not triaging. The impact of our partnership with MuseLab has far exceeded our expectations.

Now, VIIZR is using practices that many ISVs have dreamed of for years:

  • Everyone on the product team can self-service create scratch orgs, reducing operations cost and shortening the feedback cycle with customers and within the team

  • Version control is the source of truth for the entire product, not just the package itself

  • Shift-left: earlier and more thorough testing that uncovers bugs before they turn into expensive issues late in the release cycle.

In just the first three months following our engagement, the cost savings from earlier bug detection and cheaper remediation, along with the reduced cost of release operations have already more than paid for their initial investment, and VIIZR is on track to realize a 480% 1-year ROI, which will continue to compound over time.

As a veteran of the Salesforce ISV QE space, I’ve never seen anything close to the capabilities I have available today for my team at VIIZR.

Going forward, VIIZR will gain more value from their investment by reusing their automation recipes to build modularized demo orgs and custom tailored initial product experiences, helping them sell faster and deliver increased customer success at scale.

P.S.: Full disclosure — we’re putting the “study” in “case study.” This isn’t a glossy 2-page marketing brochure-type case study; it’s an in-depth, data-backed walkthrough of the entire process we led VIIZR through, the systems we helped them implement, and the measurable productivity gains they experienced. There’s a lot to chew on here, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you!
